Greenwich Fire Department

Chief’s Welcome:

On Behalf of the Members of the Greenwich Fire Department, I would like to welcome you to our website. The Greenwich Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1933. We operate from a single central station which is located on Highway 1 in Greenwich. We provide primary service to the communities of Greenwich, White Rock, Sunken Lake, Black River, Little River Lake and Black River Lake. We also provide mutual aid assistance throughout the Municipality of the County of Kings & West Hants Regional Municipality.

On average we respond to one hundred calls per year. Our services include fire suppression, vehicle extrication, medical first response, hazardous materials response to the operations level and technical rescue in the disciplines of ice/cold water rescue and swift water rescue. Our current fleet consists of five fire apparatus: two engines, one tanker, one air/light rescue, one personnel transport vehicle and an enclosed special operations trailer.

Our department features an active membership of over forty dedicated volunteer members who come from many diverse backgrounds in life. Our members are highly skilled, many holding specialized certifications beyond basic firefighting in areas such as fire investigation, fire inspection, fire service leadership, fire service instruction, vehicle extrication, hazardous materials, ice rescue and swift water rescue. If you are interested in taking on a new challenge, please check out our recruitment section for more information on how to join us. The fire service has a variety of volunteer opportunities beyond frontline firefighting available and there is a job for everyone!

Beyond responding to emergencies, we actively strive to engage with our community to work towards the goal of having everyone practice fire safety. We are always looking for ways to promote fire prevention, so if you, or a community group you are part of, would like a presentation or a station tour please reach out and we would be happy to assist you!

Sincerely,

Chief Jason Ripley
